FESTIVAL INTERNATIONAL DE CINE DE VALENCIA CINEMA JOVE

15 - 22 June 2012. Various locations around the city

The Cinema Jove International Film Festival embarks on a new era and includes in its new name the city that proudly hosts it; hence we have: Valencia International Film Festival Cinema Jove. However, the spirit which has characterised the 26 preceding festivals is still very much alive and continues to stimulate the festival content. This spirit has forged a place for the festival among the most important specialised festivals in Spain (in a country that runs over 200 film festivals) and it has become a reference European festival that is known the world over. Cinema Jove has a consolidated identity and has maintained coherence throughout its history; so much so, that it is clearly recognised by a considerable part of the general public and the media and has earned for itself the approval of both. The Festival is still envisaged as a meeting point for filmmakers from all corners of the globe; at the same time it is a platform for new talent and a laboratory for the plethora of new trends in the international film scene.
Cinema Jove is recognised by the International Federation of Associations of Film Producers (FIAPF) as a specialised film festival with an international ranking that is geared towards film professionals, and which is always in search of new and brilliant filmmakers. Today, in the saturated world film festival scene, (in Europe alone, there are over 7,000), the FIAPF accreditation represents a hallmark of quality; it lets professionals from around the globe know that it meets the quality requisites through which FIAPF regulates this abundance of festivals. Cinema Jove has had this accreditation for more than a decade. Cinema Jove has, over its last 26 editions, served as a platform to launch new filmmakers. A huge number of directors with a myriad of nationalities have taken part and many of their names shine among the most important and prestigious in today’s film industry. Many of these were discovered by participating in Cinema Jove; either they were competing in the official categories (both in the feature film and short film categories), or they were the object of retrospective screenings. These creators would often find themselves, in a relatively short time, winning prestigious prizes at the world’s top festivals: Cannes, Berlin, Venice, as well as at the top film events: The Goya awards, The European Film Academy Prizes and the American Independent Spirit Awards, and… even at the Oscars.
The Valencia International Film Festival Cinema Jove takes place from 15 - 22 June at various locations around the city of Valencia and the program follows below.
